Monmouth County, New Jersey, July 30, 2025– In order to assist with combating the escalating overdose crisis, Zero Overdose, a non-profit organization dedicated to preventing overdose events and deaths, has partnered with Marvel Medical Transport, a provider of non-emergency medical transportation in Monmouth County, New Jersey. The goal of this collaboration is to equip Marvel’s drivers with specialized training in overdose safety planning to support individuals at risk during transit.
Zero Overdose is known for the innovative Overdose Risk Questionnaire and Safety Plan Template, which are tools that assess and mitigate overdose risks through health care focused approaches. By integrating these tools into Marvel Medical Transport’s operations, the partnership intends to create front-line defense against overdose incidents. Research shows that interventions performed by nontraditional public health staff (like transport staff) can be just as effective as those delivered in clinical staff (Health Affairs, 2024).
Marvel Medical Transport, founded by Richard and Stephanie Heid, has built a reputation for compassionate service, assisting individuals with mobility challenges. The company’s commitment to safety and personalized care make it an ideal partner for the initiative.
The training program will focus on identifying signs of overdose risk, overdose safety training, and engaging in supportive conversations. This initiative highlights the importance of collaboration across entities to address public health challenges.
“My wife, Stephanie, and I are very excited to announce our partnership with Zero Overdose. Addiction and recovery have been at the forefront of so many of our decisions here at Marvel. Yes, we transport people in many other areas of the medical treatment world. However, addiction and recovery mean so much to my wife and I. Like so many others, we have felt the impact of addiction in our lives. We know that so many people are caught up in the vicious cycle of addiction and they feel all alone. We, at Marvel, already do everything we can to help aid in our clients’ recovery. Zero Overdose is just one more amazing tool that we can offer to our clients. We are so excited about teaming up with Zero Overdose, and this partnership will help so many people that may have nowhere else to turn.” Richard Heid stated.
