HEALing Communities Study
The National Institutes of Health and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration launched the HEALing Communities Study to investigate how tools for preventing and treating opioid misuse and opioid use disorder are most effective at the local level.
The goal of the study is to reduce opioid-related overdose deaths by 40% over the course of three years in participating communities. Research grant awards were issued to the University of Kentucky in Lexington; Boston Medical Center in Boston; Columbia University in New York City; and The Ohio State University in Columbus.
